Pastor D. L. Powell is a passionate preacher and teacher of God's Word who is widely recognized by his constituents as gifted in the areas of alliteration and scriptural insight. His preparation and focus in the areas of Biblical Stewardship, Biblical Leadership and Biblical Preaching are ones in which he is often sought to teach and preach on. He is a humble leader who loves God and God's people. He has a great burden for helping those around him to discover and develop their gifts and abilities to their good and God's glory.
Pastor Powell is a native of Palestine, Texas born November 18, 1958. He received Christ and was baptized at the age of eight at West Union Baptist Church. While serving as an ordained Deacon at the "Holy Temple" church on a military base in Nuremberg, West Germany he acknowledged his call to the Preaching Ministry in 1981. His first Pastorate was the "Living Water" Church in Killeen Texas, where he led a young and growing church from 1982-1984. He served as the Pastor of "Friendship" Missionary Baptist Church of Miami, Florida for seventeen productive years from 1985 until 2002, where he led in building lives, ministries, buildings and budgets. During July of 2002 he became the Executive Assistant to Pastor Arthur Jackson Jr. at the "New Shiloh" Missionary Baptist Church of Miami, Florida. In August of 2002 (after Pastor Jackson received his promotion to heaven) Reverend D. L. Powell became Pastor of the "New Shiloh" Missionary Baptist Church of Miami, Florida where he now serves. His visionary leadership is constantly birthing new ministry opportunities and renovating the church campus to become a Five Star Ministry.
He is the Third Vice Moderator of the Florida East Coast Baptist Association and Bible Expositor for their Southern Division. He has served as a Vice President of the Florida General Baptist Convention and Congress of Christian Education. He has a great love for the Word of God and has taught on several State and National levels. His Biblical studies include Miami Christian College, Trinity International University and Moody Bible Institute. He received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree, from Smith Chapel Bible College in May of 2004.
Pastor Powell is married to Mrs. Catherine R. Powell, and has two wonderful children, Vashti D. Powell and Daniel L. Powell He is the author of two books: "Four Anchors In A Storm"(1995) and "Prospering Through Proverbs"(2000) One of his favorite verses is Ephesians 3:20.
